THE COMPANY
A multidisciplinary consultancy that specialises in a wide range of ecological services, from habitat and species surveys to biodiversity net gain strategies and ecological impact assessments. They work on a diverse range of projects across the UK including infrastructure, transport, energy, urban regeneration, and conservation. From large-scale rail and road schemes to housing developments and renewable energy projects. They get involved in everything from conducting habitat and protected species surveys to designing biodiversity net gain strategies and ecological impact assessments. Their team also supports clients with licensing and mitigation.
 
THE ROLE
Our client is looking for a Principal Ecologist with the ability to undertake all aspects of consultancy work, including project management, coordinating resources, designing and conducting ecological surveys, drafting reports, and advising on mitigation strategies. This will be based out of their London office, with a focus on local project work and engagement with client teams. Some travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
 
REQUIREMENTS
  • A degree in Ecology or a related field
  • Circa 7 years’ experience in the Ecology industry
  • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and policy
  • Strong fieldwork skills
  • Experience in working effectively with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
  • A proven track record of managing and delivering projects efficiently
  • CIEEM Membership
  • Strong botanical knowledge
  • An understanding of project management principles and methodologies
  • Protected Species Licences
  • The ability to mentor junior members of staff
  • Experience as a named ecologist on mitigation licences
  • A full, clean UK driving licence
